Grace That Keeps You
“being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ”
Philippians 1:6 (NKJV)You are not a project God got tired of halfway through. Paul wrote to a little church in Philippi from a prison cell, and he did not sound worried about them for one second: "being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ" (Philippians 1:6, NKJV).
Read the confidence in that line, because Paul chose his words the way a man chooses them when he is staking his reputation on them. He was not hoping God would finish. He was confident. And look at why: he knew who started the work. You did not begin this. You did not save yourself, call yourself, or light the first spark of faith in your own heart. Grace did all of that. The God who starts a work in a person does not walk off the job when it gets slow, messy, or expensive. Contractors abandon projects. God finishes them, and Paul even gives the completion date: until the day of Jesus Christ. The keeping has an endpoint, and the endpoint is glory, not your last good week.
This is Day 27 of our series on the grace of God, and it answers the fear that sits underneath so many believers: what if I cannot hold on? Friend, the promise was never that you would hold on perfectly. The promise is that He will complete what He began. Your grip has good days and bad days. His does not. Some of you woke up today measuring yourself by your worst week and quietly assuming God has downgraded His plans for you. He has not. The work is His, the keeping is His, and the finishing is His.
So your part today is not to complete yourself. Your part is to stay in the hands of the One who completes, to keep showing up, keep repenting, keep believing, and let grace do the keeping it promised to do. A work in progress is still a work of God, and heaven does not grade half-finished houses. It waits for the Builder, and the Builder has never once left a house unfinished.
Prayer: Father, thank You that You finish what You start. When I look at my slow progress and feel like giving up on myself, remind me that You never have. Keep the work of Your grace going in me today, through every setback and every slow season, until the day of Jesus Christ. I am staying in Your hands. In Jesus' name, Amen.
