Carried All the Way Home
“Even to your old age, I am He, And even to gray hairs I will carry you! I have made, and I will bear; Even I will carry, and will deliver you.”
Isaiah 46:4 (NKJV)God does not hand you off to somebody else when you get old. There is no point in a believer's life where heaven transfers your file to a lesser department. The God who carried you from the womb says, in His own words, that He will be the same God at the far end of your life: "Even to your old age, I am He, And even to gray hairs I will carry you! I have made, and I will bear; Even I will carry, and will deliver you" (Isaiah 46:4, NKJV).
Read the verbs in that verse, because the whole promise lives in them. Carry, bear, carry, deliver. Every one of them is something God does, and not one of them is something you do. Isaiah wrote this to a people who had watched idols get carried around on carts and shoulders, gods that had to be hauled by the people who made them. His God is the opposite of that. This God does the carrying. He made you, which means your life was His idea. He bears you, which means your weight has never once been too much for Him. And He will deliver you, which means the story does not end in decline, it ends in rescue.
Grace on Day 25 of this series has gray hairs in it. Maybe that is you, reading this with hands that do not work like they used to and a body that files complaints your younger self never imagined. Maybe it is your mother or your father, and you are watching somebody you love slow down in ways that scare you. Either way, hear it plainly: God has not retired, and He has not retired you. The prayers of an older saint are not leftovers. Some of the heaviest intercession on earth right now is coming out of quiet rooms, from people the world has stopped watching, and heaven has not looked away for one second.
So here is the practice for Day 25: name one person in the later years of life who needs this verse today, and get it to them, by phone, by visit, by note, before this day ends. And if that person is you, say the verse out loud over yourself this morning, slowly, the way you would read a letter addressed to you. Because it is. The hands that held you at the start have not loosened their grip, and they will not loosen it at the finish.
Prayer: Father, thank You that You are the same God at the end of the road that You were at the beginning. You made me, You have carried me every year of my life, and You will carry me all the way home. Let the older saints in my life feel Your nearness today, and let me be one of the people You use to remind them. In Jesus' name, Amen.
