New Every Morning
“Through the Lord's mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.”
Lamentations 3:22-23 (NKJV)Yesterday ended hard, and you woke up half expecting today to just be more of it. Most of us carry yesterday into the morning like a debt collector carries a ledger, rehearsing what we spent, what we broke, and what we are sure we have used up. Jeremiah knew that feeling from the inside. He wrote the book of Lamentations sitting in the ruins of his own city, watching the nation he loved lie in rubble, and it is right there, in the middle of the ashes, that he says the most defiant sentence in the book.
"Through the Lord's mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness" (Lamentations 3:22-23, NKJV). Notice what Jeremiah does not say. He does not say the circumstances improved. Jerusalem was still broken. He says the mercy is new. Grace on Day 24 of this series is a sunrise, not a storage unit. God does not hand you a lifetime supply on the day you get saved and then watch you ration it. He delivers it fresh, daily, the way He delivered manna in the wilderness, enough for today, with tomorrow's portion already on His mind.
That means yesterday did not touch today's portion. The failure you keep replaying did not spend tomorrow's mercy. The prayer you prayed badly, the words you wish you could pull back, the strength that ran out by noon, none of it drew down the account, because the account is not your performance. The account is His faithfulness, and Jeremiah puts the weight exactly there: great is Your faithfulness. Your grip on God was never the supply line. His grip on you is.
So here is the practice for Day 24: before the phone, before the news, before the rehearsal of everything that went wrong, say it out loud in Jeremiah's own words. They are new every morning. Then name one thing from yesterday and hand it over on purpose, by name, and refuse to carry it into a day that God has already stocked with fresh compassion. The sun came up this morning carrying proof that He did not forget you overnight.
Prayer: Father, thank You that Your compassions fail not and that this morning arrived with mercy I did not earn and cannot exhaust. I hand You yesterday, by name, and I receive today with clean hands. Great is Your faithfulness. In Jesus' name, Amen.
