Grace for Giving
“And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work”
2 Corinthians 9:8 (NKJV)I have watched God supply a whole work out of almost nothing. Not once. Again and again, at the exact moment the need showed up, the supply showed up with it. Paul tells you where that supply comes from: "And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work" (2 Corinthians 9:8, NKJV). Read the order in that verse. All grace abounds toward you. Then sufficiency, everything you need, in all things, at all times. Then abundance, and the abundance has an assignment: every good work.
Paul is writing to a church about a collection for suffering believers in Jerusalem, and he does not apologize for connecting grace and giving. A few verses earlier he says the one who sows sparingly reaps sparingly, and the one who sows bountifully reaps bountifully. That is not a fundraising trick. It is how the kingdom handles seed. God gives seed to the sower. He multiplies what is sown, not what is stored. The barns in Jesus' parable belonged to a man God called a fool, and the oil in the widow's house kept flowing as long as there were empty vessels to receive it.
Grace for giving means God never intended you to be the end of the line. He pours in so it can pour through. Sufficiency is not the ceiling of this verse, it is the floor. What God puts in beyond your need is not your cushion, it is your assignment. Somebody's rent, somebody's groceries, somebody's mission field is sitting in the abundance column of a believer who has been calling it savings. An open hand is hard to empty, because God keeps aiming at it.
Day 19 of 30 on grace, and here is the charge for today: before this day ends, let one thing God gave you land in somebody else's hands. Money, time, a meal, a ride, an open door. Do not wait until it feels like plenty. In Paul's math, the giving is what makes room for the abounding.
Prayer: Father, thank You for grace that abounds toward me. Make my hands as open as Yours. Show me whose good work my abundance was meant for today, and give me a cheerful heart to release it. In Jesus' name, Amen.
