Grace for the Humble

“God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble”

James 4:6 (NKJV)

"God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble" (James 4:6, NKJV). Read that first half again, slowly. God does not just ignore pride. He resists it. Pride pushes, and Heaven pushes back. But humility does the opposite. It opens a door pride keeps slamming shut.

Day 12 of 30 on grace, and here is why this verse is good news: you do not have to impress God to receive from Him. You have to get low. The proud come to God with a resume, a list of reasons He should be glad they showed up. The humble come with empty hands, and empty hands are the only kind grace can fill.

James wrote this to believers who were fighting, grasping, and asking God for things with the wrong motives. His answer was not try harder. His answer was get lower. Grace is not running low today. It is running toward the lowly, toward the person willing to stop defending their pride and start opening their hands.

Whatever you are carrying into this weekend, lay the pride down first. The argument you have to win. The image you have to protect. The apology you are waiting for somebody else to make first. Get low, and watch what grace does for a humble heart that pride could never do for a proud one.

Prayer: Father, I lay my pride down before You today. I come with empty hands and an open heart. Give me the grace You promise to the humble, and teach me to stay low enough to keep receiving it. Amen.
