Grace Teaches

“Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age”

Titus 2:11-12 (NKJV)

Grace is not soft. It is the strictest teacher you will ever sit under. Plenty of people think grace means God stopped caring how we live, but Paul says the opposite: the grace that saves is the grace that schools.

Titus tells us the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, and that same grace goes to work teaching. It teaches us to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts. It teaches us to live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age. A pardon deals with your past. A teacher deals with your present, your mouth, your eyes, your temper, your Sundays.

Day 11 of 30 on grace: stop treating grace like a receipt you keep in a drawer and start treating it like a voice you follow out the door. The same grace that carried you to the cross will carry you into a holy life, one taught lesson at a time.

Prayer: Father, thank You for grace that does more than pardon me. Teach me today. Show me what to put down, and give me the strength to live soberly, righteously, and godly before You. Amen.
