Day 1: Favor You Never Earned

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:”

Ephesians 2:8 (KJV)

Grace is the most misunderstood word in the church. People treat it like a reward, something you unlock after enough good behavior. Paul destroys that idea in one verse: by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves. It is the gift of God.

Grace means unmerited favor, God giving you what you could never earn and did not deserve. You were dead in sin, and He made you alive anyway. That is not a transaction. You cannot bargain with it, add to it, or improve on it. You can only receive it.

That is why grace wrecks religion. Religion says climb. Grace says come. Religion says earn it. Grace says it is finished. The same grace that saved you is the grace that keeps you, grows you, and will carry you all the way home.

This morning, stop striving. You start by grace, and you finish by grace. All thirty days of this series, we are learning to live like we believe it.

Prayer: Father, thank You for the gift I could never earn. Teach me to rest in Your grace today instead of striving. In Jesus' name, amen.
