You Will Receive Power
“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”
Acts 1:8 (KJV)Before Jesus ascended into glory, He gathered His disciples one last time and gave them a promise. He didn't promise them comfort. He didn't promise them safety. He promised them power.
"You shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you." In the Greek, the word is dynamis, the same word we get dynamite from. This is not a gentle suggestion or a poetic thought. It is explosive, life-changing, devil-shaking power.
Notice the order in the verse: the Spirit's coming first, then the witnessing. Power precedes the mission. Too many believers try to witness in their own strength and wonder why nothing happens. Jesus said the formula plainly: get filled, then go. The disciples obeyed, and Acts chapter 2 shook a city with the sound of a rushing mighty wind.
That same Holy Ghost lives in you right now. Not a weaker version. Not a modern substitute. The same Spirit that launched the church is the Spirit you woke up with this morning. That means today's trouble meets a Spirit-filled believer. That means today's coworker, neighbor, or stranger might be the one God has appointed for your witness.
Walk into this Wednesday expecting God to move. Pray for boldness like the early church prayed. Watch for one person to witness to. The power is not for your comfort. It is for His harvest.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, fill me fresh today. Give me boldness to speak and power to witness. Let my life carry the evidence of Your presence wherever I go. In Jesus' name, amen.
